Milano diary

An habit I used to have before Covid was to escape to Milan every now an then, to eat somewhere I’d like, do some shopping and just enjoy the vibe of the city. Actually I was there the Sunday before Lombardy was closed and put in red zone and we all couldn’t actually understand how much in danger we were. I was lucky let’s honestly say it. With a little more than an hour driving from where I live, I’m in San Donato and after living there the car for a few euros you take the metro and you’re in the city centre. And from February 2020 till the end of May 2021 I didn’t went back to this city I love. When I went back, I’ve actually decided to book a room there and stay for a few days, just to make up the missed visits. Here is a little diary of my adventure there, really random as really I don’t remember in which day we have done what, but here are my comfort places!

Un’abitudine che avevo prima del Covid era di fuggire ogni tanto a Milano, per mangiare in qualche posto che mi piace, fare un po’ di shopping e semplicemente godermi la città. A dir la verità mi trovavo lì proprio la domenica prima che chiudessero la Lombardia e diventasse zona rossa e nessuno di noi sapeva che pericolo stavamo correndo. Sono stata fortunata, diciamocelo. Con poco più di un’ora di guida da dove vivo sono in San Donato e dopo aver lasciato lì la macchina per qualche euro si prende la metro e si arriva in centro città. E da febbraio 2020 fino alla fine di maggio 2021 non sono tornata in questa città che amo. Quando sono tornata ho deciso di prenotare una camera e rimanere per qualche giorno, per recuperare i giri persi. Qui c’è un po’ di diario di quell’avventura, molto random perchè non ricordo in che giorno abbiamo fatto cosa, ma qui c’è ciò che amo fare!

Kunsthaus Zurich

Flagship of Zurich’s artistic scene is the museum Kunsthaus Zurich who opened in 1910. On three floors it encloses masterpieces that you cannot miss if you are in the city.

And here we are at the last stop of my Swiss itinerary. I admit I’ve decided last minute to get there and I’ve stayed for a very short time, you have much more to see and do in Zurich than what I wrote here, anyway this spurs me to go back and use Zurich as base for a new trip around Switzerland.

Ed eccoci arrivati all’ultima tappa del mio itinerario svizzero. Ammetto ho deciso all’ultimo di andarci e mi sono fermata troppo poco, ci sarebbe molto di più da fare e da vedere di quello che vi scrivo qui, tuttavia, questo mi sprona a tornarci e ad utilizzare Zurigo come base per un prossimo viaggio.

Zug: visit, eat, sleep.

Third stop of my Switzerland trip and also third of these guides, is the small city of Zug, famous for its cake and for being so rich. If you choose to come here, get ready to open your wallet, but you’ll be surely rewarded, cause you’ll be fascinated. For how long you should stay? Well I’d say three days to see the city entirely, otherwise take what you like here, calculate your times, and go!

Mount Rigi: visit, eat, sleep.

In Switzerland it’s called ‘the Queen of Mountains’, so I couldn’t choose a different place for my secon stopover. Alas, I wasn’t lucky at all! Despite being summer the weather was super cold (10°!) and a dense fog, blocking the view. Anyway I didn’t give up and I’ve tried to use my time at its best.

In Svizzera la chiamano ‘la Regina delle Montagne’, e non potevo scegliere un posto diverso per la mia seconda tappa. Purtroppo non sono stata fortunatissima, ahimè! Nonostante fosse estate c’era freddissimo (10°!) e una nebbia fittissima che impediva la vista. Tuttavia non mi sono data per vinta e ho cercato di sfruttare al meglio il mio tempo.

Guided tour of Bellinzona City Centre and Castelgrande

On my instagram profile I’ve told you that if you have only one day to visit Bellinzona you have to choose a saturday, than on my guide to visit the city I’ve told you that the reason is because during this day of the week you can take a guided tour of the city and you also have the amazing street market of local products around the city centre. But how is the guided tour like? How it takes place? Those are information that I would love to know while I’m organizing my day in Bellinzona. Here I’ll tell you everything about this experience that was kindly offered to me by the Ticino’s tourists institution.

Su instagram vi ho raccontato che se avete solo un giorno per vedere Bellinzona dovete venirci il sabato e nel mio post di guida alla città vi ho rivelato che la motivazione è la possibilità di visitare con una guida la città proprio in questo giorno della settimana, oltre che per il pazzesco mercato di prodotti tipici per le vie del centro. Ma com’è questa visita guidata? Come si svolge? Informazioni che io per prima avrei voluto conoscere se mi trovassi ad organizzare una giornata bellinzonese. Vi racconto quindi i ‘retroscena’ di quest’esperienza che mi è stata gentilmente offerta dall’ente turistico del Ticino.

World Press Photo 2020 in Bellinzona

Con grande probabilità se vi trovate qui a leggere questo post già sapete cos’è World Press Photo. Se invece ne siete ignari è giusto che io vi spenda qualche parola, quanto è noioso entrare in un discorso già iniziato e doversi cercare da soli le informazioni precedenti? World Press Photo è un concorso a cadenza annuale di fotogiornalismo. Questo concorso oltre ad avere un vincitore assoluto per foto singola e reportage, ha delle categorie con vincitori interni (come Natura, Ritratti, Spot News e diverse altre). Una volta aggiudicati i premi da parte di giurie indipendenti le foto ‘partono’ per andare in circa 50 paesi nella mostra che porta il nome del concorso (e dell’associazione che lo istituisce).

Vincitori quest’anno sono stati gli umani che rivendicano i propri diritti. Non voglio dilungarmi troppo in descrizioni delle singole foto, credo che sia giusto invece darvi degli imput per regalarvi un’ora all’interno della mostra. Lasciatevi trascinare dalle foto (sempre abbinate da una breve, ma accurata storia che vi guida ad un’adeguata comprensione). Troverete gli effetti del cambiamento climatico, la lotta per la sopravvivenza, la disparità sociale, gioia sportiva, il controverso rapporto uomo/natura, malattia mentale e fisica, redenzione, famiglia. Io che ho ‘affrontato’ la mostra da sola, diverse volte mi sono trovata con gli occhi che si riempivano le lacrime. Forse accompagnata e magari sentendomi più ‘giudicata’ non sarei riuscita a provare le emozioni che mi sono state date. Ma parliamo di emozioni o giornalismo? Parliamo di immagine e com’è sempre stato, nella storia dell’uomo, le immagini ‘arrivano’ prima e più in fondo delle parole. Perchè io posso scrivervi qui che una ragazzina di 15 anni di nome Ewa si è risvegliata dallo stato catatonico dovuto alla sindrome di rassegnazione, o voi potete vedere in una foto il suo volto e raccontarmi perchè le due esperienze sono totalmente diverse.

With great probability if you are here reading this post, you already know what World Press Photo is. If you are unaware instead, it is right that I spend a few words on it, how annoying is to take part to a conversation that already started that forces you to find the informations on your own? World Press Photo is an annual contest of photojournalism. Besides having an absolute winner for single photo and reportage, this contest has more categories with internal winners (like Nature, Portraits, Spot News and more). Once awarded by an indipendent jury the photos ‘leave’ to go in around 50 different states in a exhibition that has the same name of the contest (and of the association that sets it up).

This year’s winner have been humans that lay claims to their diricts. I don’t want to talk at lenght on a description of every photo, I prefer instead to give you imputs to make you want to go spend an hour inside the exhibition. Let yourself fascinate by the photos (always paired by a short, but curated description that guides you to an adequate comprehension). You’ll find the effects of the climate change, struggle for survival, social disparity, sports joy, the controversial relation between man and nature, mental and physical illness, redemption and family. I ‘confronted’ the exhibit by myself and several times I’ve fpund tears coming down from my eyes. Maybe with someone else and feeling ‘judged’ I wouldn’t have expressed the same emotions. But are we talking feelings or journalism? We are talking about images and has it have always been, in human history, images ‘arrive’ before and deeper than words. Because I can write you here that a 15 years old girl named Ewa woke up from the catatonic state she was into due to her resignation syndrome, or you can look at her face and tell me why this two experiences are completely different.
