I’ve never hidden from you how hard these days are to me. Or I should say months, due to the fact that I’m in this tunnel since February. What does it mean to be a pharmacist during Corona Virus? Shovelfuls of stress, work and often, alas, rudeness. I’ve started doing this job a little more than one year ago, with a big smile on my face, a lot of scrupulous study behind and a lot of passion to put in the play. If someone would have told me what I’ll have met halfaway, I’ll probably never believed it. But. But since the first information started coming out I saw the terror increasing inside people, than we became orange and zone and finally red and quarantine. Many have died here in my town and many are the cases that are still active. Medical clinic and urgent care are closed and majority of the diagnosis are made by phone. What is always open instead in your opinion? The pharmacy obviously. From one day to another we’ve found ourselvs to the front, without weapons to fight. A pharmacist, expecially in a small town, has to be a little medician and psichologist, but we started being them fully. Unfortunately many haven’t understood, we’ve been offended and treated poorly for many reasons, from asking distances to not believing into the latest fake news or not giving antibiotics or antivirals without a medical prescription. Luckily in the middle there were what we call ‘white flies’, or said people that always thanked us, but how many times I’ve found myself crying alone in my bedroom after the charge of stress and bad news? No one of us is interested on being considered an hero, or being on the first page of newspapers, all we ask for is a thank you now and than, bu most of all respect for all the effort that everyday we put in our gestures and tasks.
The t-shirt I’m wearing it’s an ironical way to answer to the pain we’ve received, like Marie Antoinette paid for her mistakes, I’m sure karma will strike back onto who was able to think only for himself. It’s a creation of the amazing Gloria Ferrari, that I’ve bought at last year’s Festival della Lentezza, alas I don’t think she has an online shop, buti f you’ll ever find her in a street market my advice is to stop by and have a look, you’ll surely find something you like!
Non vi ho mai nascosto come questi giorni siano duri per me. O questi mesi dovrei dire, dato che mi trovo in questo tunnel da febbraio. Cosa vuol dire essere una farmacista ai tempi del Corona Virus? Vuol dire palate di stress, di lavoro e spesso, ahimè, di maleducazione. Ho iniziato a fare questo mestiere poco più di un anno fa, con un gran sorriso sul volto, tanto scrupoloso studio alle spalle e tanta passione da mettere in campo. Se qualcuno mi avesse raccontato a cosa sarei andata incontro difficilmente gli avrei creduto. Eppure. Eppure da quando le prime informazioni sono iniziate ad uscire ho visto la paura aumentare nelle persone, per poi passare alle varie fasi di zona arancione e infine zona rossa e quarantena. Molte sono state le morti qui nel mio paese e molti sono i casi ancora all’attivo. Studi medici e guardia medica sono chiuse e la maggior parte delle diagnosi vengono fatte al telefono. Cos’è invece che è sempre aperto secondo voi? La farmacia ovviamente. Da un giorno all’altro ci siamo trovati al fronte, senza armi per combattere. Un farmacista, soprattutto se di paese, deve essere anche un po’ medico e un po’ psicologo, ma all’improvviso ci siamo trovati ad esserlo in pieno. Purtroppo però sono stati in molti a non capire, spesso siamo stati insultati e trattati male per qualsivoglia motivo, dal banale richiedere le distanze di sicurezza al fatto che non credessimo all’ennesima fake news o che non rilasciassimo senza ricetta antibiotici e antivirali. Per fortuna in mezzo ci sono sempre state le cosiddette ‘mosche bianche’, chi ci ha sempre ringraziato, ma quante volte la sera mi sono ritrovata a piangere da sola nella mia camera dopo il carico di stress e brutte notizie? A nessuno di noi è mai interessato essere considerato un eroe, la prima pagina sui giornali, l’unica cosa di cui abbiamo bisogno è un grazie ogni tanto per tirarci su, ma soprattutto rispetto per tutto l’impegno che ogni giorno mettiamo nei nostri gesti e mansioni.
La maglia che indosso nella foto è una risposta ironica al male che abbiamo ricevuto, come Marie Antoinette ha pagato per i suoi errori, sono certa che il karma tornerà anche verso chi ha saputo pensare solo a se stesso. E’ una creazione della bravissima Gloria Ferrari, che ho acquistato al Festival della Lentezza dell’anno scorso, ahimè che io sappia non ha uno shop online, ma doveste trovarla in qualche mercatino vi consiglio di fermarvi a dare un occhiata e troverete sicuramente qualcosa che vi piacerà!
